ANIME & ART

Create your own artworks using templates by illustrator Simone Meng Xie, inspired by Genji Monogatari – a manga adaptation of the classic Japanese novel that also influenced Luciano Castelli’s folding screen paintings. A creative workshop for all ages. Participation is free of charge.

MUSEUMS NIGHT

Experience Japanese culture through the brushstrokes of Swiss artist Luciano Castelli. Create your own origami artworks with Flavia Sciullo, discover the traditional Japanese art of Mizuhiki with Yuki Kudo from Msubi, and meet the artist in person.

As a special highlight, immerse yourself in the Butoh Body Lab performance by Kihako Narisawa, whose dance interacts with Castelli’s folding screens and is accompanied by music from Basel-based sound designer Janiv Oron.

KITSUNE-MASK WORKSHOP

Japan runs as a red thread through Luciano Castelli’s work – visible in his early self-portraits as well as his fascination with masks, rituals, and theatrical role-playing. At the Family & Friends Day, the focus is on creative exchange.
In the workshop with Roots+Wings Creative Studio, you will create your own traditional Kitsune mask – inspired by the magical fox spirits of Japanese folklore.

For children aged 4 and up.
Tip: Don’t wear your favorite clothes – it might get colorful!

For those who missed the Museums Night performance: Kihako Narisawa dances once again in dialogue with the exhibition’s specially created paravents, accompanied by soundscapes by Basel-based sound designer Janiv Oron.

The curatorial tours offer deeper insights into the exhibition and are personally led by the artist Luciano Castelli.
