ZEITRÄUME BASEL - BIENNALE FÜR NEUE MUSIK UND ARCHITEKTUR

In keeping with the exhibition title, Zacarias Maia creates sound with the material wood as well as various tree-like plants; with a unique focus on perhaps the best-known woodwind instrument, the recorder. Lea Sobbe, recent recipient of the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes 2021, improvises, among other things, on a piece by Jacob van Eyck from the 17th century, which is based on the then well-known folk song When Daphne did from fair Phoebus fly. In it, Daphne, fleeing from Apollo, allows herself to be transformed into a laurel tree. This very tree is then brought back to life in Groene Ruis by Cathy van Eck. With this program, the ZeitRäume Basel gives a foretaste of its site- and context-specific productions, which will be shown throughout the city from September 9 to 19, 2021. www.zeitraeumebasel.com
