ONE MONTH AFTER BEING KNOWN IN THAT ISLAND
The accompanying publication One month after being known in that island: Caribbean Art Today (Hatje Cantz) offers a visually arresting representation of the different positions represented in the show. Published in both German and English, the book includes an interview and rich selection of images drawn from the works of the eleven artistic in the show. The reader can encounter contemporary Caribbean art through the curatorial essay of Yina Jiménez Suriel and Pablo Guardiola and newly commission texts by the Puerto Rican scholar Marta Aponte Alsina and renowned Dominican novelist and musician Rita Indiana. With a foreword by Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger director Raphael Suter and an introduction by Caribbean Art Initiative director Albertine Kopp, the book explores the connection between Basel and the Caribbean, inspired by the curatorial approach proposed by Yina Jiménez Suriel and Pablo Guardiola.
